UK Heat Pump Installations Surge in 2024
Posted on 4th November 2024
In an unprecedented year for renewable energy adoption, the UK has seen a remarkable increase in heat pump installations and record-breaking growth in certified installers. Power World heat pumps, recognised for their efficiency and affordability, contribute significantly to this surge, helping more households access the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which offers financial support for households transitioning to renewable heating solutions.
Growth in Certified Installers and Heat Pump Deployment
According to recent data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), over 42,000 heat pump installations were certified between January and September 2024, surpassing the total for 2023. With more than 5,000 contractors now MCS-certified - 58% of them for heat pumps - Power World’s MCS-approved models have become more accessible to the market, offering UK households a reliable pathway to sustainable heating solutions supported by the BUS.
Trends in Heat Pump Installations and Sector Challenges
Since 2020, MCS-certified heat pump installations have tripled, marking strong progress in renewable energy adoption across the UK. However, achieving the government’s ambitious target of 600,000 installations annually by 2028 poses ongoing challenges. The majority of installations to date are retrofits in existing buildings, which can involve higher costs and logistical adjustments compared to installations in new-build properties. Despite these challenges, MCS data reveals a growing interest in incorporating heat pumps into new constructions, with 14% of installations in 2024 attributed to this sector.
This rise in demand for both retrofits and new builds reflects the versatility and appeal of heat pump technology, particularly as households and businesses seek sustainable and cost-effective heating solutions. Power World heat pumps are designed to meet this diverse demand, with adaptable systems that ensure optimal performance whether installed in an existing building or as part of new construction. By accommodating the unique requirements of each setting, Power World heat pumps make renewable heating accessible to a broader range of UK properties, supporting the nation’s transition to greener energy.
Battery Storage and Solar Power Growth
While heat pumps have driven market activity, battery storage is also gaining traction. By September 2024, MCS had recorded 13,263 certified battery installations, highlighting the rapid growth in this sector. Livoltek’s advanced battery systems complement Astronergy’s solar panels, storing excess energy to maximise renewable usage and support sustainable energy independence.
